On Friday, August 19th, we traveled to Indy and spent the weekend at the Indiana State Fair to attend the 4-H Dog Show. We decided to go and just watch this year to see if it is something Megan might be interested in participating in next year. We did get to cheer on some other kids and their dogs from Daviess Counties “UnderDogs” dog club.
One being, Miss Cassie and her lab, Max.
Look at Maxi, looking up at Cassie, wanting to please her. Aww so sweet.
Here is a glimpse of Cassie’s cheering section. The Underdog club had t-shirts made to wear at the local 4H dog show as well as the state fair…must say I thought our group looked pretty sharp and were easily picked out in the crowd. Did I mention there were nearly 700 dogs at the state fair dog show? Crazy how many dogs were under one roof. But it was a lot of fun watching the different dogs and different levels of competition.
This was Cassie waiting her turn to show Max in obedience. Max was a little nervous and didn’t perform as well as he is capable of doing but it was the first time for the dog to be in the Big City around all the activity.
Max did much better on Sunday after he was able to “relax” and enjoy the show. Here is Cassie & Max during Senior Showmanship.
We were very proud of Cassie, she and Max kind of had a rough day of showing on Saturday but by Sunday all the nerves were relaxed and it was good to see Cassie’s smile back on her face!
We also got to watch Kurt B. and his dog Roper perform in Obedience, Showmanship, and Agility.
They even ended up winning 2nd place in Obedience out of over 100 dogs in his class. They got a score of 199.5 out of a possible 200…so they were pretty much near perfect team! We were all so proud of them!
Roper also flew threw the agility course in a speedy 26 seconds! Roper knocked a couple bars down but he definitely was a crowd pleaser and took the crowds breath away when they saw Roper take off through the course, because most dogs before him were acting goofy and were going off and all over the course and then here came Roper who shot through the course like a bullet and was very in control and Kurt and Roper looked so sharp blazing through the course.
We also got to watch Katelyn G. and her dog Preston. She did really well and was very close to placing at State Fair as well.
Griffin spent a lot of time hanging out with Kurt’s little sister, Alexis, who is 6 just like him and goes to BR with him. She was really good about sharing her Game-boy with Griffin and they enjoyed going back and forth around the dog show building playing around coming back to the “spot”, which is where we had our chairs and coolers and dog crates set up.
We also had time in between dog showing times to go out and stroll around the fair. Of course we got to see the World’s Largest Boar! Griffin LOVED seeing all the animals!
Not to mention he was THRILLED to see the baby pigs in the same building. I think he would have picked one up and brought it home if he could have figured away to do it.
He was also EXCITED to see the “BIG Cheese” as he called it…it was a sculpture made out of cheese!
And that building just happened to have baby chickens that he had to reach in and pick one up! I think he was on Cloud 9, everywhere he turned around there was something fascinating for him to check out!
We had a great time and they enjoyed staying at the hotel as well and were pretty well wiped out when their heads hit the pillows. In fact they all snuggled here to watch a movie and within 5 minutes they were all zonked out! And in the words of Griffin “Mommy, the State Fair is REALLY FUN!” so we are all looking forward to going back next year!
