Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you are all are thankful for your turkey you will be eating tomorrow and all the work that goes into getting your bird to the table!! Ha Ha...just kidding WE are truly thankful for everyone who is eating turkey tomorrow as that supports the turkey farmers! This past Saturday the kids and I got to get in on moving litter from the brooder to the grow-outs. Les & I are blessed with children who really enjoy helping on the farm...thats not to say they don't complaing or fight while they are helping but for the most part they just get right in there and help. The girls are really getting to the age where they are BIG help and Griffin was born ready to work and begs his daddy all the time to go to work! He was beside himself excited that he got to go along to help Saturday! His job & mine was to open and close the doors when Neal came with the tractor to spread the litter in the grow-outs. Megan & Natalie help move the birds to one end of the barn and hold them there until the litter got spread at the other end. And then after the litter was spread then they helped dump the waters so there would be clean water in them. It is such a dusty dirty job but someone has to do it! Grandpa's job was loading the litter from the brooder building with the skid loader and put it into the spreader. Les helped move the birds and was back and forth between the brooder and the grow-outs and taking care to make sure everyone was doing their jobs done.

Did I happen to mention how dusty this job is?? The picture above shows the dust what you don't see is Neal is actually on the tractor in the ball of dust..you can't even see the tractor. Thats why we wear the masks and respirators when we are down there!

I think Megan & Natalie actually enjoy getting to wear the respirators! ha ha Below are pictures of them working and when Neal would bring the tractor in to spread the litter they would run out the side doors and lay on the ground...can you see the dust in front of them that was coming out of the the curtains on the sides of the grow out! Makes me want to cough just looking at it. They are fun to watch while they were standing keeping the birds where they are suppose to...the one time I looked down there they were dancing doing the macarana(sp?) One thing for sure they make it fun wherever they are!

Below are pictures of Griffin working...for being 4 he impresses me with his farm knowledge and has the natural Graber inguinity in him already at 4...he doesn't miss anything and can tell if something is out of place of different. Although he did have to have help keeping his gloves on and mask on. He had to take a little break in the van for some crackers and to take his hat off as he informed me "this hat is too itchy!" It was very, very cold on Saturday and none of the kids complained about being cold and stuck with the job until it was finished....it took from about 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. to finish it.

Here's my little turkey farmer opening and shutting the door. He also found a rake that he was raking litter and rocks up with. He likes to stay busy and not stand around?? Sounds like some one else that he gets alot of his genetic traits from...could it be his DADDY???

So this Thanksgiving I am thankful that we have the farm where our children can grow up and appreciate and know what it is to have a good hard work ethic and that it takes everyone in the family to make it work!
